Quieting down the CPU cooling fan and repairing my LED light mod
My CPU fan had gone out and so I bought another one. The biggest Baddest meanest CPU fan I could possibly find which was about 10000 RPMs 4 inch fan. When I built this PC I had forgotten to hook up the RPM sensors on the motherboard for the fan, and as a direct result the fan was running at its full 10000 RPMs rate. however there were only 2 pins on the fan, a + and a – so red and black, no RPM sensor on this fan, so I had no option to hook up the sensors, This meant that the big fan was very loud. Unfortunatly this computer is used for watching videos on and listening to audio. it is my Entertainment PC.. In fact it has no monitor. it is directly hooked up to the Television set and its speakers are my 5.1 DTS system.. but there are times when I cannot play the sound very loud and when I have it quiet I cannot hear the sound over the fan. The Solution was simple for me. I am using Speedfan to monitor the temperatures and I have hooked up a transistor and a potentiometer to set the fan speed. During times of High CPU usage or if the CPU gets too hot I can turn the fan up to 10000 RPMs, at other times when I am not using very much CPU or if the computer is running cool I can turn the fan down. I had previously modded the PC with some Blue Led Light Strips and Neon LED light Bars. some of these LEDs were not working, Most of them were unhooked when I changed out the Power supply, one in particular I had inadvertently hooked up backwards.
